This weekend, the fledgling Tea Party movement has been holding a convention in Nashville, Tennessee. White, middle-class, contemptuous of Wall Street, Washington and academia, the Tea Party insurgents view themselves as the descendants of the militiamen who whipped the British at Yorktown. Ironically, with the exception of George Washington, most of the firebrands of the revolution were intellectuals: Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Ben Franklin, John Jay, John Adams, James Madison, Samuel Adams. Only Paul ­Revere worked in retail.

The Tea Party insurgents have had a nice run recently, disrupting public hearings, shouting down elected officials, scaring the bejesus out of incumbents. They insist they are amateurs, that their movement is spontaneous, though critics suggest otherwise, insisting they are funded by those who wish to see Barack Obama fail. The Tea Partyers despise Obama, the Federal Reserve chairman, Ben Bernanke, and the treasury secretary, Tim Geithner, and are fiercely opposed to the government bailout of Wall Street. They hate taxes, the stimulus package, the media and Hollywood, and believe they are the last remaining bulwark of democracy, preventing the US from slipping into socialism. They have put anyone running for re-election on notice that if they fail to toe the Tea Party line, they will walk the plank.

Charting Europe's Crisis - Part 1

With Europe finally regaining its rightful place as the epicenter of the peripheral economic crisis, it is time we shift focus, albeit briefly, from America and its increasing cadre of troubles, to those of the Euro area. Below we present some of the key charts and observations that will frame the imminent [bail outdefault] of a whole host of minor EMU and EU countries.

The first, and most relevant data series, is unemployment. And while in the US everyone is well aware of the various seasonal adjustment gimmicks, DOL definition loopholes, and ridiculous birth-death model models which make the final number completely irrelevant, it is useful to note that both the EU and the US are sharing roughly the same "broad definition" (U-3) unemployment rate as a percentage of the labor force. Notable is that while the U.S. equivalent of this metric has allegedly started to improve (even as NSA data indicates the reading is at record recent highs), the European unemployment rate has yet to plateau.

Next, counting to use data from the ECB's Statistical Data Warehouse, we present the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, or, in brief, Euro Area Inflation rate. After hitting a low of -0.3% in August of 2009, the most recent reading indicated a +1% rate of inflation. This number is suspect for several reasons as will be shortly discussed.

I think the time has come to ask ourselves a few stupid yet fundamental questions:

1. If there is so much of debt/deficit all around, which entities are at the lending end? Who are so powerful to bring entire nations to their knees? Other counties? Banking entities? Large private entities? Who are they?

2. What part of the debt/deficit was financed internally funded (money printing) ?

3. What part of the debt/deficit was financed by external borrowing/ bond sales? Who are the counter-parties?

4. Can we have a bit of transparency and publish a "Debt Network Diagram" that includes open list of all major lenders and borrowers (all major entities in the world of finance should figure here) and also the timelines.

5. Analyze and "reduce" the diagram to arrive at the net debt per nation. For example US is a debtor but is also a creditor nation (via direct loans to other counties and indirectly via US funded entities like World Bank, IMF and other banks/PE/hedge-funds etc)

6. This analytical task is very important. At least humanity will know who are the real money masters to whom they are enslaved?

7. It is going to be a large and intricate diagram and will have to be built piecewise by many people and then spliced together. It is worth the effort.

I suspect, the diagram will reveal that most of the net wealth (net lending) originates from a handful of entities.

It may also show that large part of such "wealth" was actually printed (manufactured out of thin air) over many decades and propagated through so many hands that it is no longer easy to recognize it as such.

Let us not forget than "total normalized wealth" in this isolated planet is constant and what changes is its distribution pattern. The wealthy individuals/nations have a larger share of this normalized wealth (or notional buying power). Money is an instrument for exchange of this wealth and the exchange rate can vary from one place to another as well over time (devaluations).

The time order in which the global system of currencies got built is very interesting too. Going back to history, The Third World nations are poor not because they had no natural resources (tangibles that are equivalent to normalized wealth) but because they did not have an upperhand with their currency valuation. This happened long before most modern economic textbooks were even written. Powerful entities took advantage of that.

So, can we build this diagram or not?
Will it be too uncomfortable a truth to lay bare?
Who can answer?

He lied, cheated and destroyed good peoples careers. Jones believes that the unit was maliciously targeted with multiple FoI requests by climate change sceptics determined to disrupt its work. And thereby save the world from the economic nightmare of Phil Jones and his band of government grant loving, to hell with everyone else, gay men.

Last week Graham Smith, the deputy information commissioner, ruled that by failing to release requested data Jones and his colleagues breached FoI regulations. Broke a law! Not Phil. He broke all the laws. The affair is now the subject of a review led by Sir Muir Russell, former vice-chancellor of Glasgow University.

International Planned Parenthood Pushes "Sexual Rights," Abortion for Children

New York, NY (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- In its new report "Stand and Deliver," the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is demanding that governments, religious institutions and society at large provide "comprehensive sexuality education" for children as young as ten years old.

In a foreword, Bert Koenders of the Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, which helped fund the publication, asserts that, "Young people have the right to be fully informed about sexuality and to have access to contraceptives and other services. These rights are enshrined in various internationally agreed human rights convention and treaties, but – unfortunately – they are still not universally respected."

According to IPPF, as "young people are sexual beings," it should be self-evident that "sexuality education promotes individual well-being and the advancement of broader societal and public health goals." IPPF argues that "comprehensive sexuality education" must be mandatory in school, and governments must also ensure that this education is delivered to those young people who are out of school.

India forms new climate change body

The Indian government has established its own body to monitor the effects of global warming because it “cannot rely” on the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the group headed by its own Nobel prize-winning scientist Dr R.K Pachauri.

Spending Our Way to Stagnation

Many governments have responded to the economic downturn by increasing the size of the public sector. It was remarkable how quickly they resuscitated the theory that assumes more government spending can boost economic growth.

Popularized by John Maynard Keynes in the 1930s, the theory is based on the notion that government can "prime the pump" by spending money, which then begins to circulate through the economy. Keynesian theory sounds good but it overlooks the fact that, in the real world, government can't inject money into the economy without first taking money out of the economy.

Excerpt: Most studies using current economic data show that economic performance is maximized when the public sector is less than 20% of GDP. And if historical data is used, the evidence suggests that government should be even smaller.

Hyperion reveals design details of its 25 MW reactor

Santa Fe, New Mexico – It sounds like a science fiction movie: a tiny nuclear reactor the size of a bathtub that could produce enough electricity to power 20 thousand homes. It would contain no weapons grade material, would produce very little waste and would be refueled every seven years. It would be so safe from kidnapping it could be buried in the backyard. Terrorists would keep away because if they did get it, it would be the same as holding a piece of the sun. But this is no movie. This is for real.

Design details

The sealed core, which is good for up to 10 years, does not require refueling at the customer site. Instead, the entire mechanism is replaced by a new one. The first use of the reactor at a customer site will be to produce electricity. The planned output of the reactor will be 25 MWe. Other applications include process heat and power for remote military applications. The company claims to have numerous customers lined up to buy the units.

Features include;

* Each unit will generate approximately 70MWt and 25MWe – enough to power 20,000 average American homes.

* The temperature of the secondary loop is 450-500 F. The secondary loop is a liquid metal circuit to produce steam so that there is no contact between the primary reactor and water in any form.

* Overnight costs are estimated by the firm to be $2,000 - $3,000 per KW capacity. The bottom line market goal is to generate electricity for US$0.10 per kWh anywhere in the world.

* The reactor, which measures 1.5 x 2.5 meters, can be transported by truck to a customer site. Connections to a secondary loop, turbine, and transmission lines increases the footprint, but not by much.

What’s the matter with you Americans?

More years ago than I’ll admit, I was a student in a class of the man who became my mentor, Tom Willett. The course was in economics and public policy, and the early part of the syllabus had us read on the nature of arguing about economics. One line that stuck out to me like nothing else was this: Saying “if you knew what I know you’d agree with me” is poor argumentation. I may know what you know, my professor argued, and yet find a flaw in your logic or add another piece of evidence that leads me to a different conclusion.
The notion that we know enough to know what is in someone else’s best interest is evidence of this fallacy, and I have found over the succeeding decades there are many academics that fall into it. Applied in the political sphere, it takes the form of “why does the public not understand what we are trying to do?”

Mr Banaian is essentially correct. We have heard repeatedly over the years from leftists "whats wrong with conservatives, they voted against themselves again. They must be stupid." No we are just selfless! We are more concerned with the future well being of the country and of our kids and grand kids than we are of instant gratification.

We know that an unarmed citizenry is ripe for the plunder of power mad people. We know that each step taken toward socialism is a step away from freedom. We do not want to lose our freedom, individuality and proudly capitalistic country to a Oligarchy.
Real Americans don't want your damn government hand outs! What we want, is for your hand to stay out of our pockets. What we want is a bare minimum of government, just the basics and leave our well being to us.
So to perplexed liberals I say this. Selfish will never understand unselfish. Thats why you don't get us, and will never own us!

Paulson Says Russia Urged China to Dump Fannie, Freddie Bonds

Jan. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Russia urged China to dump its Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bonds in 2008 in a bid to force a bailout of the largest U.S. mortgage-finance companies, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said.

Paulson learned of the “disruptive scheme” while attending the Beijing Summer Olympics, according to his memoir, “On The Brink.”

Excerpt: Russia sold all of its Fannie and Freddie debt in 2008, after holding $65.6 billion of the notes at the start of that year, according to central bank data. Fannie and Freddie were seized by regulators on Sept. 6, 2008, amid the worst U.S. housing slump since the Great Depression.

In the early '90s, my most P.C. friend boasted about attending an anti-racism workshop. Although the event was called "Healing Racism," I silently dubbed it "Blaming Whitey."

As she described it, whites and blacks faced each other on opposite sides of the room. Whites guiltily told tales of being racially insensitive, and blacks berated them. Then blacks recounted stories of racism while whites bowed their heads in shame and apologized.

My friend pronounced the day as healing. I thought it sounded sadomasochistic.

I chalked it up to "only in Berkeley." But over the years I've heard of more and more such happenings.

In states both blue and red, incoming college freshmen must attend social justice seminars during orientation. As though 18-year-olds don't feel crappy enough about body fat and pimples, now they have to recoil at the color of their skin.

The targeted audiences for these blaming and shaming sessions are getting younger, which is predictable. Every cult from the Moonies to the Left recruits from the malleable young.

Even kindergartners are being groomed to be the littlest of community organizers. One of my twenty-something clients cried herself to sleep in second grade after her teacher graphically detailed the conditions of slave ships. While this lovely young person never harmed a flea, somehow she became responsible for genocide.

Our daily problem

I go out with several sweaters and a very old scarf wrapped around my neck. The errand is short, but with the temperature so low every step I take is a great sacrifice. People beside me in the street are equally “disguised” and I even see someone who appears to have a bed blanket wrapped around his shoulders. Although in the short trip from home to the bakery I don’t see anyone wearing a nice coat, I see that popular inventiveness does not end when the thermometers fall. The Soviet-era raincoats have been dusted off, with their enormous buttons and now faded colors. Others, those who don’t even have something to cover themselves, have simply stayed home.

I go to a place where they sell bread outside the rationed market and a baguette costs a whole day’s wages. Curiously, many of those I have seen on the road, with their peculiar and improvised costumes, are headed in the same direction I am. As we get nearer I confirm that everyone is going after the little food that has kept us in suspense for several weeks now. A few feet from the place, someone ahead of us raises the cry, “There isn’t any more!”, throwing a real bucket of cold water on us. I turn around and go home. Tomorrow will be another day without breakfast.

The arrival of these winds from the north has coincided not only with the disappearance of bread, but also with the flight of the milk. As if winter had affected the ovens and frozen the cows’ udders. Although on TV they announce that the production targets for the precious milk have been exceeded, they deny us the solitary cup of coffee or the insipid tea every morning. These are times to jerk yourself awake without looking at the table, to tell the kids not to ask questions, and to put aside work, the blog, friends, life, to devote yourself entirely to the pursuit of a piece of bread and a glass of milk. Time to drag ourselves through the dust of shortages and lines and because to break this contemptible cycle and fly we need—more than wings—the fuel of food.

Historically wrong ideology can kill a country and destroy multiple generations of good people. That is what happened to Cuba. Obamas ideology is not that different from Castro's, and certainly the same as his good friend Hugo Chavez, dictator of Venezuela.

But Michael Moore said that Cuban health care was better than in the USA? He lied.

Video taken at the Hijas de Galicia Maternity Hospital in Havana, on June of this year. In any civilized country, a hospital like this one would be closed by the health authorities. Not even an animal hospital would be allowed to remain open under such filthy conditions.
Fidel Castro would have died years ago if he was forced to go to one of these hospitals.

Next time a Castro apologist, like Michael Moore, claims that Cubans receive excellent health care thanks to the Castro brothers, send him this video.

Obama, shrink this government!

The Precarious State of Our Union

In this week's much anticipated State of the Union address, President Obama again demonstrated his poor understanding of the fundamental problems that confront our nation. By following the advice of the same people who helped guide our economy to the precipice of total collapse, Obama now threatens to push it over the edge.

Excerpts:

• Rather than tightening the reins on the reckless monetary policy that undermined our savings, diminished our industrial output, inflated asset bubbles, and led to reckless speculation on Wall Street and excess consumption on Main Street, we are loosing them further.


• Rather than repealing regulations that distort markets and create moral hazards, we are adding new ones that do more of the same.


• Rather than cutting government spending to reduce the burden it places on our economy, we are increasing both the amount of the spending and the size of the burden.


• Rather than making government smaller so that the private sector can grow, we are making government bigger and forcing the private sector to shrink.


• Rather than paying off our debts we are taking on even more. Rather than encouraging people to save we are enticing them to spend.


• Rather than creating jobs, we are merely creating unemployment benefits.

The day of the thug anti-American union are coming to an end. We at BLN call it "information death" as hoodlumism, forced obedience, thuggery, bribery, and outright stealing cannot exist in the light of day.

Do not buy a GM or Chrysler product until the unions are no longer part of the ownership of those company's. Look for the Union Label, then run!

It's time for America loving, conservative unions to become a reality.

Leftwingers Outraged by Being Associated with Leftwingers

Nazis (and by implication all “right- wingers,” past and present) were inherently wicked. Their agenda was evil from A to Z, their methods along with their goals.

Communists (and by implication left-wingers) at least mean well. Oh, they might get a tad overzealous at times (killing more people than the Nazis and the Bubonic Plague combined, as documented in the Black Book of Communism, for instance) but at least their hearts were in the right place. Even Barry Goldwater might get it. “Extremism in the defense of socialism is no vice!”

In a one hour special titled “Revolutionary Holocaust; Live Free or Die” run on January 22nd Glenn Beck mounted a full-frontal attack against the above notion—and left it a smoking cinder.

Excerpt: First, there was dinner at the Council on Foreign Relations. After holding court there for a rapt David Rockefeller, along with Robert McNamara, Dwayne Andreas and Random House's Harold Evans, Castro flashed over to Mort Zuckerman's Fifth Avenue pad, where a throng of Beltway glitterati, including a breathless Mike Wallace, Peter Jennings, Tina Brown, Bernard Shaw and Barbara Walters, all jostled for a brief tryst, cooing and gurgling to Castro's every comment.

All clamored for autographs and photo ops. Diane Sawyer was so overcome in the mass killer's presence that she rushed up, broke into that toothy smile of hers, wrapped her arms around Castro and smooched him warmly on the cheek. -Barf-
